The Golden Retriever Club of Qld held its Obedience Trial Saturday night 10th July, 2010. Our judges were Linda Bennet judging UDX, UD & CD and Andrew Holmes judging CCD & CDX Congratulations to all those concerned. Thanks to Dee Hargreaves, the Trial Manager, for a well run trial and especially for the catalogue showing the full breeding of each dog. The Trophy table looked spectacular due to the efforts of Dee Hargreaves and Bev Thwaites and I was more than happy to take home a car load full. Many willing hands make a good trial – thanks to Dee, Bev and Helen Tanfield for setting up and organising the trial; and Brett Dowse and Paul Thwaites who helped to set up and steward. A couple of “Showies” turned up to watch and were very willing helpers, with Shane Careless being thrown in the deep end, stewarding in the UD ring. You did very well Shane. Hope to see you there again. Also Meghan Kent and Michelle Strain helped out as Stewards, as well as Sue Holmes. We had an entry of 16 over the various classes, with entries in all levels from CCD to UDX. We even had 5 entries from NSW. The results were CCD Fetchnpoint Fish Out Of Water – Mrs Maureen McDonald & Miss Skye Stephens Ch Tifador Jack O Hearts – Mrs Bev Thwaites CD Goldsnow Queen of Hearts CCD – Mrs Donna Rule Gemaray Bryte Goforgold CCD – Mrs Sue Eru CDX Ch Yellowfetch Mr Sandman CDX – Mrs Maureen McDonald & Miss Skye Stephens Tristalee Beat The Odds CDX ET – Helen Tanfield Tristalee Golden Ramaru CD – Mrs Sue Eru UD Euraidd One Night Stand CCD UD – Jan Dixon & Louise Patterson – Winner of Winners Ch Yellowfetch Mr Sandman CDX - Mrs Maureen McDonald & Miss Skye Stephens Anntanas Gold Navarre CDX – Pam Kettle UDX Euraidd Toast N Vegemite UD – Jan Dixon & Louise Patterson We all had hard luck stories on the night with only the CD dog gaining a qualification. It only takes one lapse of concentration to fail in obedience. But everyone took things in good grace and were genuinely upset when a dog did something wrong. After all the classes were finished, there was a Winner of Winners competition. Each class winner was required to complete 2 exercises pertaining to their classes and these were scored by the two judges. The highest score was Winner of Winners. It was lovely to hear the applause as each dog or bitch competed, and the genuine ohs and ahs when they didn’t do the right thing. None of the dogs were perfect, but they all had fun, as did their handlers. I was delighted to be awarded the Winner of Winners with Yogi and the framed print we received is already hanging on my wall. Once again, congratulations to all the organisers, the helpers, the competitors and especially to the Goldens without whom there wouldn’t have been a trial. Jan Dixon |
